Grain floors, now for sleeping

Lofts

Twelve lofts fill the upper storeys of the mill, each shaped by the beams and hoist-beams that were already there. We added comfort quietly and left the character alone.

How the lofts are arranged

The mill rises four storeys above the millrace. Lofts on the lower floors sit closest to the water and carry its steady sound; higher lofts trade a little of that for longer views over the orchard and the weir quarter rooftops. Every room includes wool bedding, blackout shutters behind the original louvres, a kettle with valley-grown tea, and a small writing desk salvaged from the old mill office.

We keep the house deliberately small, so booking is a conversation rather than a transaction. Guest relations will talk you through which loft suits a light sleeper, which has the deepest tub, and which sits far enough from the courtyard that the optional evening room is never heard. Cornmere is a restful base first — a gateway to the riverfront when you want it, and a place to ignore the world when you do not.

The lofts

Second floor · single room

Hopper Loft

Our smallest room, tucked under the eaves with a dormer reading chair and a straight view down the weir. Best for solo travellers who want the water close.

From $155 / night

Second floor · double

Sluice Loft

A snug double beside the old sluice gate, with a window seat wide enough for two and morning light from the east.

From $185 / night

Third floor · corner

Millrace Loft

Corner room where two shuttered windows meet above the channel. The sound of falling water is strongest here — most guests sleep better for it.

From $210 / night

Third floor · double

Orchard Loft

Faces the cider orchard rather than the water, so it is the quietest room in the house. Blossom in spring, lantern light in autumn.

From $200 / night

Fourth floor · suite

Granary Suite

The whole old grain floor: a sitting area under the roof trusses, a deep cast-iron tub, and windows on three sides. Our room for long stays.

From $320 / night

Fourth floor · suite

Hoist Loft

Built around the restored sack hoist, with a raised bed platform and a private balcony over the weir pool. Two guests, no more.

From $295 / night

In every loft

Rates are for two guests where the loft allows it and include breakfast in the Granary. Taxes are added at confirmation. We hold rooms with a card but take no payment through this website — every stay begins with a note or a call.
