The undercroft, where the water runs
The Millrace
In the vaulted cellar where the channel still flows, we built a small bathhouse around the water that once turned the wheel. Warm, cool, steam, and stillness — capped at a handful of guests so it never feels like anything but yours.
Bathing under the mill
The undercroft is the oldest part of Cornmere — granite arches, a stone floor worn smooth, and the millrace running along one side behind a low parapet you can trail a hand in. Restoring it, we resisted the urge to make a spa of chrome and piped music. The bathhouse is candle-lit and quiet by rule. What you hear is the channel; what you smell is cedar and cold stone.
Sessions run ninety minutes and are booked for small groups only — never more than eight guests share the undercroft at once, and lofts may reserve it privately for an hour in the evening. There is no treatment menu of upsells. There is warm water, cold water, steam, and time.
What is down there
Cold plunge
A stone tank fed straight from the millrace, bracingly cold year round. Two breaths in, and the valley feels very far away.
Cedar steam
A small timber steam room scented with cedar and river mint, kept low and gentle rather than fierce.
Rest benches
Heated stone benches and wool blankets for the part that matters most — doing nothing, listening to water.
A few treatments, booked ahead
A visiting therapist keeps two mornings a week for slow bodywork and hot-stone massage using oils pressed in the next valley. These are the only bookable extras, and they are never pushed — most guests come for the water alone. Ask guest relations when you arrive and we will see what the week allows.

Robes, slippers, and towels wait at the undercroft stair. The bathhouse is for registered guests aged sixteen and over; under-sixteens may use the warm pool during a family hour we set aside on request.
