Responsible Play

The gaming room off the courtyard exists only for guests who want it. It is never required, and Cornmere Mill remains a quiet riverside stay whether you enter it or not.

Optional, always

The gaming room sits in a converted cart store with its own door onto the courtyard, away from the lofts and the path to them. No room rate includes it as a condition of stay. Guests who prefer the fire, the bathhouse, or an early night need never open that door, and our staff do not promote or upsell what happens inside it.

Age checks

Entry is limited to people twenty-one years of age and over. Valid government-issued photo identification is required at the door and may be requested again inside. Anyone under age is not admitted under any circumstances, including when accompanied by an adult guest.

House conduct

We expect the same calm in the gaming room as everywhere else at Cornmere. Guests who are heavily intoxicated may be refused entry or asked to step out. Harassment of staff or other guests, and any attempt to get around the age check, ends the visit and may affect continued accommodation.

Any drinks served follow the same responsible-service standard as the Granary. A drink is never tied to time spent playing.

Setting your own limits

We encourage guests to decide before entering how much time and money they are comfortable spending, and to stop there. Staff can explain the self-limit and voluntary exclusion tools available under local regulation, and there is no pressure, ever, to keep going.

If play stops feeling like recreation — if you find yourself chasing a loss, borrowing to continue, or skipping sleep and meals for it — please step away and talk to someone you trust. The desk can quietly provide details for confidential support, without judgement and without a record.

Where to find help

Confidential help is available around the clock through national problem-gambling services. Trained counsellors offer free conversations by phone and text. Ask guest relations for a printed resource card, kept at the desk and at the gaming room door.

These services run independently of Cornmere Mill. We list them because an early conversation often prevents a harder one later.

Staff training

The small team who cover the gaming room and the front desk are briefed to recognise the signs of trouble, to de-escalate calmly, and to point guests toward support. We do not train anyone to encourage longer play or to lean on guests who seem uneasy.
